Get new data sources live faster. Keep them trustworthy when they change.
For products built on external data. MethodLane helps companies whose product depends on third-party feeds onboard new sources faster and measure what matters: freshness, coverage, drift and accuracy. Start with a three-week Feed Health Check, $9,500 fixed.
- Run by Nitin Saini:
- 10x onboarding capacity at TrackSo
- 80% less validation time at USAA
- 50%+ less customer impact at Compass
What is slow onboarding costing you?
Example values
Engineering time spent onboarding, a year
about$374,000 a year, 108 engineer-weeks.
12 × 6 × 1.5 engineers × ($180,000 ÷ 52)
Engineers per source and cost per engineer are example values too.

Where data products break
New sources take months to onboard.
Every provider sends a different format. Mappings are hand-built, one engineer at a time, and the backlog of “sources we’ve signed but can’t use yet” keeps growing.
Feeds change without notice.
A renamed field, a new status code, a late file. Ingestion fails quietly, and the first person to notice is a customer.
Nobody can prove the data is good.
“The data looks fine” isn’t a metric. Freshness, coverage, drift and accuracy can be measured, and once they are, quality stops being an argument.
Getting data “AI-ready” is the same work. A model is only as good as the feeds underneath it.
Work out your onboarding cost
Four numbers you already know. The calculator multiplies them out and adds nothing of its own. Example values. Replace them with yours.
One source is one provider feed you take in and map into your product.
From the first file to data in production. For reference: Corteva reported 30–45 days per source before rebuilding its onboarding. Yours may be very different.
Full-time equivalent. Two engineers at half time = 1.
Salary plus benefits, taxes and overhead. It’s divided by 52 for a weekly cost, which slightly understates it.
Leave blank if sources don’t map to revenue directly.

Your numbers, multiplied out
per year
Engineering time spent onboarding, a year
about$374,000
6 ÷ 4.33 = 1.4 months: wait before each new source is usable.
Move the slider to see what a faster process is worth with your numbers.
Assumes engineering effort shrinks with elapsed time. That’s a simplification: some of the wait isn’t engineering.
How this is calculated
- Weekly engineer cost = annual loaded cost ÷ 52
- Engineer-weeks a year = sources × weeks to onboard × engineers per source
- Engineering cost a year = engineer-weeks × weekly cost
- Months before a source is usable = weeks ÷ 4.33 (52 weeks ÷ 12 months)
- Revenue that starts later = sources × months before usable × monthly revenue per source
- “X% less time” multiplies weeks to onboard by (1 − X%) and recomputes everything above
- Nothing else is added: no benchmarks, no multipliers.
- Now: 12 × 6 × 1.5 × ($180,000 ÷ 52)
What a Health Check adds
These numbers are estimates from your own inputs. A Feed Health Check replaces them with measurements: how long each source really takes and where the weeks go, plus freshness, coverage, drift and mapping-error rates for every feed.
With your inputs, onboarding takes about 108 engineer-weeks a year, costing about $374,000, and each new source waits 1.4 months before it can be used.

Three weeks, from guesses to measurements
The goal of the work: new sources live in days, not months, with quality you can prove. The Health Check measures how far you are from it, and what closes the gap first.
Before
Intro call
25 minutes on your sources and where it hurts. If a Health Check fits, you get a one-page scope and the fixed fee. If it doesn’t, I’ll say so.
Week 1
Inventory
Every external source: owner, format, cadence, where it lands. Short interviews with the people who onboard and run the feeds.
Week 2
Measure
Freshness, coverage, drift and mapping-error rates for each feed. How long a new source takes today, step by step.
Week 3
Plan
The cost of slow onboarding, a prioritized 90-day plan, and a read-out to leadership.

Who you’ll work with
I’m Nitin Saini. For more than a decade I’ve worked on one problem: data that arrives from many outside sources and has to become something people can rely on.
I co-founded TrackSo, an energy-data platform handling about 500K live records a day, where onboarding capacity grew 10x to more than 5,000 assets. At USAA I automated data-quality validation and cut the time it took by 80%. At Compass, customer impact from data issues fell by more than half. At Oracle Financial Services I led the team that automated health checks for banking software used by more than 25 large banks.
Every Health Check and every Advisory client is run by me, not passed to a junior team.
Questions
What kind of companies do you work with?
Companies whose product depends on data they don’t control: B2B data vendors, logistics and supply-chain visibility platforms, energy and utility data platforms, health-data platforms and alternative-data providers. Usually 20 to 300 people, with more sources than engineers to run them.
Why not just hire another data engineer?
You may need to. An engineer builds and runs pipelines; the Health Check tells you which feeds are costing you, by how much, and what to fix first, so you know what to hire for before you hire.
Do you need access to our data?
Read-only access to the feeds or recent samples, plus pipeline logs and run history. I work inside your environment where possible and sign your NDA first.
What happens after the Health Check?
You keep the scorecard, the method and the 90-day plan, and your team can run it without me. If you want help doing it, Advisory picks up from there, and the Health Check fee is credited if you start within 30 days.
Do you build the pipelines?
No. I measure, diagnose, plan and coach. Your team keeps ownership of what it runs, which is the point.
Which tools do you work with?
The ones you have. I’ve worked hands-on with Python, SQL, Snowflake and API-based delivery, and the method doesn’t depend on any vendor.
Why publish prices?
So you can decide whether it’s worth a call before you book one. Both offers are fixed-price; neither is billed by the hour.
Is this about AI readiness?
Partly. A model inherits every gap, delay and silent schema change in the feeds underneath it. Getting data “AI-ready” is the same work as keeping it trustworthy, and it starts with measuring it.
Do you work with companies outside the US?
Yes, anywhere. The work is remote, prices are in US dollars, and calls are scheduled in hours that overlap with US Eastern time.
Why is Advisory capped at three clients?
Every client works with me directly. Three is the number I can serve properly.
What happens on the intro call?
25 minutes. You describe your sources and where it hurts; I ask questions. If a Health Check fits, you get a one-page scope and the fixed fee by email. If it doesn’t, I’ll tell you, and usually what I’d do instead.
